As we look at the children within our home, our school, our churches and our world, we can begin or continue to teach them the Word of God. They are growing up in a more dangerous world than the world we grew up in. As it was for us, it will be the power of God that will allow our children to prevail.
In the text we look at God’s children as they continue to progress toward the promise land that God had promised to generations before. For all us, God has a divine destination, a journey that will take us to a place set aside and prepared for us. Along the way we need to be reminded of the things that God has promised for this journey.
Israel complained instead of praising God when they had problems and they complained and grumbled against leadership. We also grumble against the people that God has put in our lives to help us get where God wants us to be.
I want to remind us in this message of three things that God promised his children in their journey to their land flowing with milk and honey.
God promised the children of Israel that He would:
- Protect them from the enemy (they would not fall by the sword). Many times as we journey in life, because of our lack of faith, we never reach our divine destination. God directed Moses to send twelve spies out to view the land. They initially saw what was good. Then they took their eyes off God and proclaimed that their wives and children would fall to the sword. Loking at people often hinders us from accomplishing God’s will.
So many times we are hindered by the faith of others, especially young children who have to depend upon the faith of their parents and elders in their lives. Let us encourage the children of our church, that even if the parents don’t believe, we challenge them to believe.
In the text this morning, God’s reminds Israel that they said, and not He, that they would become prey. God, will fight our battles as he did for the children of Israel. He will protect us.
- God wants to progress us into a better land. God will bring them into the land he has promised. We must remind our children and ourselves, that not only will God protect us where we are at, but he will take us to our promised place.
Children, if you grow up in a bad situation, you need to know that you don’t have to stay there. If parents don’t believe you can, God says you can. Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things". We need to instill in our children that they can go places that we have never been. We must not let our fear limit their future.
- Prosper them in the land where God had placed them. God promised the children of Israel, not only would they not fall to the sword but they would go into the land and they would know the land. The children of Israel would know the land as their own. They would know the blessing of the land. They would take the land that flowed with milk and honey and be blessed in the land.
We need to remind ourselves and our children that wherever God takes us, He will provide. God provided for Israel’s on their journey.
As we teach our children to walk by faith with God, let’s help them be reassured that God would not bring them to any place and leave them. Don’t tell them that the road will be easy; however, let them know God will take care of them.
I leave the children with this prayer. Lord, help the next generation of your people progress to a future better than their parents ever dreamed. God protect them in all their goings. God, take them in to land set aside just for them. And finally God, establish them, bless them and keep them in the place you have allowed them to settle. Thank you Lord, in advance for the blessings that our children will see. In Jesus name, AMEN
