LIBERTY IN CHRIST
Lesson #13
-
As a Christian, are you free to do whatever you please? Briefly explain.
We have freedom to do God’s will, but we do not have freedom to sin.
-
The Word of God draws some boundaries on your freedom. Explain those boundaries from each of the following verses.
-
Galatians 5:13
Your freedom is not so you can feed your worldly flesh, but so you can serve God. -
Romans 6:18
Our freedom is so we can be servants of righteousness. -
1 Peter 2:16
Our freedom is so we can serve God.
-
Galatians 5:13
-
When you choose to sin, what are the consequences of your choice?
- You will not bear fruit. (John 15:1-8)
- You will be chastened as God’s child. (Hebrews 12:5-11)
-
You will reap as you have sown. (Galatians 6:7-8)
-
God will get the glory from your life, either as a vessel of honor, or as a vessel of dishonor.
(2 Timothy 2:20-21)
-
List four ways that your freedom can influence the people around you.
- You will be a testimony for good or a testimony for bad. (Romans 14:7)
- You will cause weak Christians to stumble. (Romans 14;13-15)
-
You might avoid things which appear wrong even though they may not be wrong.
(Romans 14:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:22) - You have a good testimony towards both saved and lost people.
-
You are to have a good testimony toward both saved and lost people. What is the reason for this?
It is to influence them for good in the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
List eight questions you can consider in setting the bounds of your personal liberty?
- Am I being bought under the power of something that should not be controlling my life?
- Am I edifying myself or others?
- Can I ask God to bless it with a clear conscience?
- If the Lord returned at this moment, would I be ashamed?
- Would it cause a brother to stumble?
- Would it be cause for a lost person to reject the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior?
- Does my conscience condemn me for it?
- What is good or right about this thing that I would allow it in my life?
-
What is the role of the Holy Spirit regarding your personal liberty?
The Spirit gives you life. (2 Corinthians 3:6. 17)
- Briefly explain the purpose of this lesson.
We have freedom to serve and do God’s will but not to sin.
