An Attitude for Altitude
 Philippians 3:15-17

I believe it should be every Christian’s goal to mature and grow in grace and in their knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In many cases it is our attitude that affects our altitude in Christ.

Paul gives us a format for reaching new heights in Christ. Paul once was Saul. Paul once sat back and watched as they stoned Stephen to death because of his boldness for Christ. Paul’s attitude and mindset toward Christ changed. He became a believer; however, he became more that just a believer. He became a committed servant for Christ. Even in his prison situation, he had the right attitude.

Paul had reached a point where his attitude was not going to be determined by what was physically around him. He had reached a level of maturity that he could maintain his focus and encourage others despite his own circumstances. His relationship with God had reached a new altitude. As for us, there are three things that will help our Christian altitude.  We must:
 1.     Forget the things that negatively affect our past
 2.     Acknowledge where we presently are in life.
 3.     Focus on our future in Christ

Points of Application:

  1. Maintain humility and keep a positive attitude about where we are right now.
  2. Have a short memory about your past failures
  3. Always strive toward the standards set by Christ

I close with this prayer: Lord help us to maintain our Christian attitude in every situation. Lord, help us to always remember that our altitude in Christ can be greatly affected by our attitude. Lord help us to grow, mature, stay focused, to always stay positive and to always strive for goals that will glorify You. Thank you for a relationship that is constantly growing and constantly being challenged to grow. In Jesus Name! AMEN.
